A Guide to Preventing Pests in East Palo Alto, CA Homes

At KB's Pest & Termite Control, we want to help East Palo Alto, CA homeowners create a less inviting environment for common pests. Most pests are looking for three things: food, water, and shelter. By limiting their access, you can significantly reduce your risk of an infestation.

  • Seal Potential Entry Points: Pests can enter through tiny cracks and openings. Regularly inspect the exterior of your East Palo Alto, CA home for gaps around utility pipes, vents, and foundation cracks. Seal these with caulk or steel wool. Ensure weather stripping on doors and windows is intact.
  • Eliminate Moisture and Standing Water: Pests are drawn to water. Fix all leaky pipes and faucets promptly. Ensure your gutters are clean and downspouts direct water away from the foundation. Eliminate any standing water in your yard, as this is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  • Maintain Smart Sanitation Practices In the House: Clean up crumbs and spills immediately. Store food (including pet food) in airtight containers. Take out the trash regularly and keep bins clean. Reduce clutter in basements, attics, and garages. Piles of boxes, paper, and clothing provide ideal hiding spots for pests like spiders and rodents.
  • Manage Your Landscape: Keep tree branches and shrubs trimmed back from your house, as these can act as bridges for pests like ants. Store firewood at least 20 feet away from your East Palo Alto, CA home and off the ground. Firewood piles are a prime location for termites and other pests. Keep mulch beds a few inches away from your foundation.
  • Be Vigilant About What You Bring Inside: Check grocery bags, cardboard boxes from deliveries, and second-hand furniture for signs of pests like roaches or bed bugs before bringing them into your home.By following these proactive steps, you can make your East Palo Alto, CA home a much less attractive target for pests. For complete protection, a professional preventative service plan from KB's Pest & Termite Control is your best defense.

East Palo Alto, CA Insights: Population,
Zip Codes, Influence, and Service Areas

East Palo Alto (abbreviated E.P.A.) is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of East Palo Alto was 30,034. It is situated on the San Francisco Peninsula, roughly halfway between the cities of San Francisco and San Jose. To the north and east is the San Francisco Bay, to the west is the city of Menlo Park, and to the south the city of Palo Alto. Despite being called "East" Palo Alto, the city is directly north of Palo Alto. While often incorrectly assumed to be part of the city of Palo Alto, East Palo Alto has always been a separate entity since its founding as an unincorporated community and its incorporation in July 1983. It is also in San Mateo County, while Palo Alto is in Santa Clara County. The two cities are separated only by San Francisquito Creek and, largely, the Bayshore Freeway (the vast majority of East Palo Alto is northeast of the freeway, while all of the residential part of Palo Alto is southwest of the freeway). The revitalization projects in 2000, and high income high-tech professionals moving into new developments, including employees from Google and Facebook, have begun to slowly eliminate the historically wide cultural and economic differences between the two cities. East Palo Alto and Palo Alto share both telephone area codes and postal ZIP codes.
